FCAT Benchmark Remediation - FCAT TEST ON TUESDAY, APRIL 26!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you finished remediating your benchmarks?  Remediation scores will be updated on Monday, 4/25 and Tuesday, 2/26. Do the remediation BEFORE the test..

You should have all of your data in your ISN. Check previous blog posts to remember about how to do the remediation. Remember that the guided notes count as one cell on the matrix also. Use them.

Tuesday is the last day we have to talk about FCAT for the year so do your best and get ready for more chemistry.

Tuesday Morning 8B holding

Tuesday morning in your 8B holding while others test,  you will complete a study guide for FCAT. I know, another FCAT related activity! Do you realize that FCAT Science is next week on Tuesday. That's in one week. Everyone should aim for a score of 5. If you aim high and hit it that's a celebration. If you aim low and hit it that's not a reason to celebrate. Aim for a 5 and do your best.

To do your best on the study guide you should bring your book, ISN, Reference guides, 6th and 7th grade notebooks, and textbooks and any thing that might help you to complete the study guide. Of course you will be using CUBE2 on it. We will go over these in class.

Special reminder to 8th period-  bring your bingo cards.

Assignment for B day- Wednesday, 4/6 and a re-cap of A day, 4/5. Important info.

I have pre-selected several guided notes activities for you to complete. You should take the opportunity if they help you. The sub will have the copies of the blank guided notes for SC.7.E.6.4; SC.7.E.6.2; and SC.6.P.13.1. I am requiring everyone complete Atmospheric Movement SC.6.E.7.5 as a large group activity, so we will do that next week.  Remember, guided notes can substitute for any other box on the remediation matrix (that means it can be used instead of Gizmos, Brainpop, or the Digital lessons).

You must access Mr. Geary's blog (Go to Mr. Geary's blog (gearyscience.com). At the top of his blog you can click on "FCAT Review Material". The password is the same as the history password.) to get the lessons. Read through the lesson and complete the guided notes. Add the paper to your ISN. If you want a lesson that's not printed out you may print it at home or you may just write the notes in your ISN.
HOME LEARNING assignment: continue to remediate your benchmarks. You should be completely finished by 4/26. Monday we  will do large group SC.6.E.7.5  with a quiz on Wednesday. You will have some class time for independent work, but there are other prep activities we need to accomplish.

Remember, the remediation activities are for your learning. The more you learn; the better you should be able to do on the FCAT. Aim for a 5 on it and between reviewing the benchmarks and CUBE2 you will be very well prepared.

The FCAT is on APRIL 26. It is a one day test with 2 sessions. And then we move on towards deeper chemistry to bridge you into high school biology. After that, we will STEAM towards the end of the year with our next big project(s). These have been a lot of fun in the past, so I think you will enjoy them. And I won't mention FCAT until YOUR scores come back after you complete the test!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another source for Remediating Benchmarks.

As another alternative to the previously mentioned ways to remediate the benchmarks you can take guided notes on each benchmark. Here's how...

Go to Mr. Geary's blog (gearyscience.com). At the top of his blog you can click on "FCAT Review Material". Do this. The password is the same as the history password.

Choose your benchmark from the list. If you can you may want to print the guided note sheet. Then you just write on it. If you can't, then you will have to write all of the notes in your ISN. Then open the benchmark activity. Take the notes. That counts as a cell from the matrix.

Remediating Benchmarks

In order for you to get ready for FCAT you should refer to your data sheet. and...
Start with the red outlined benchmarks.
Refer to the resource sheet.
Choose one box from each of two columns. Complete everything in each of  the boxes. For Digital lessons you need to view the lesson, take notes and copy the lesson summary. For Brainpop you view the video and take the quiz. You can print the quiz at home and just mark the answers on it or you can restate the question with the correct answer. Check the quiz. Record your score.
After you finish your red benchmarks, start on the yellow.
Choose one box from any of the columns and complete everything in the box. When you finish with yellow, start on the green that are less than 100%.
Do the quiz(es) in the Brainpop box. For each one that you score 100 you don't have to watch the video. If you score less than a 100 on a quiz, go back to the video, watch it, and take the quiz again explaining why you chose the new answer instead.

The FCAT 2.0 SCIENCE TEST is on April 26. It is 2  sessions in one day. To help you along the way, there will be checks on how many benchmarks you have remediated. I expect all B day students to be finished with at least 4 by Monday and A day should have 4 finished by Tuesday. You must have the data (notes, scores, summaries, quiz answers) in your ISN to substantiate your report. Remember, it's your future placement in a high school science class that depends on how you do on FCAT (that's what I have been told by the district resource teachers) and you know you want Biology next year.

Looking forward to your reports next class.
