READ this before taking LSA3 POST TEST

Everyone is expected to take LSA3 Post Test.  Unless you are going on the fieldtrip you should have it finished by Jan. 30.  I have reviewed the questions and would like to offer a few clarifications.

2. Change the word  "this" to "a" in the first sentence. It should read
For a school project, Keyonna includes a model of the Sun. (The rest of the question is fine.)

8. The responses are not in the correct order. Please reorder them to
A. Earth and the moon
B. Earth and Venus
C. Earth and Mars
D. Earth and the Sun

14.  The arrows point towards the sun. Use that to interpret the correct answer.

Good luck. If you have any more questions please ask me on Monday or Tuesday.

Welcome to Third Quarter

The year is moving along very quickly.  Today is the first day of the 3rd quarter. Everyone is starting with a clean slate.  I will be adding your science project grade in the next few school days. If you are not happy with your score you may recycle your project and resubmit.

Assignments:  Everyone should read and study 3-3, 3-4, 3-5, and 3-6.  A day reviewed this information on Tuesday and B day will review on Wednesday.  The LSA 3 BASELINE is available for a practice test.  Take it before Friday so you can study further.  The baseline will be an activity grade. The LSA 3 Post test is on Insight (Pearson) so you can access it at home, the computer lab, or at the library.  You should take it by
Wednesday, January 30.  If you are attending the college fieldtrip you will have to plan for not being at a computer during the trip.  If you are on the trip you may have until Monday, February 4 to submit your test electronically. The post test is an assessment grade.

Here is the new FCAT EXPLORER assignment. Begin the Middle school assignment with Earth/Space.  That unit is due no later than 2/5.  Use your time wisely. You will be graded on the score you earn multiplied by the percentage of the questions you have completed. This will be converted into a grade of 0-100 and will be counted as an assessment.  Don't delay until the last minute. It appears that there are about 90 questions in the section.  If you finish early and want to move on you may begin the LIFE/ENVIRONMENTAL section. That due date will be announced.

We will be doing LAB activities starting on Thursday and Friday. You must wear closed toe shoes or you will not be able to participate and you will receive an alternative assignment.  If you want to bring your own lab goggles for activities, you may purchase an inexpensive pair that only you will wear.  Otherwise you may wear one of the class set of goggles.  Be prepared to think about Matter and Chemistry.

THANK YOU.

Assignments and a Bonus Activity Opportunity

Here's the current announcement about DUE DATES. Please read it to the end. There's a BONUS Activity at the end of this post.

  1. The following are officially assigned and should be completed BEFORE beginning your next class period.
  • Read 3-3
  • Choose either to complete all of the questions and tasks in the text or to write Cornell notes for 3-3.
  • Vocabulary cards for 3-3
  • Unit Quiz for 3-3. This is the on-line quiz. YOU must print out a copy of the certificate. Your score will be based on what level you achieve on the certificate. What I See Is What You Get  (WISIWYG). I posted the following on 10/30 so maybe you remember seeing it. To access the FUSION book online go to the log-in page.
    https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/ePC/start.do
You live in Florida, your distict is Duval 32207, and your school is Landon. Click on the Remember me box so you don't have to do this everytime. Log in and go to your Library. Choose the Big BLUE button and go to ScienceFusion StudeAccess English Grade 8 .
2.  There will be a TEST next week on your second class of the week. That would be either Wednesday for  B day or Thursday for A day.

3.  ALL science projects are due in the classroom on or before 1/10 to be considered on-time. Presentations will continue each day. Some people may not be able to present before the science fair (1/15) and may not be eligible for an invitation to our school science fair. That will not affect your grade unless your project is late. If you have been in the hospital during the 2nd grading period, remember you have an extension if you need it.

4.  The ELEMENTARY FCAT EXPLORER is due on 1/15.  At 12:01 am on 1/16 I may pull scores so make sure yours is registered. This will be an assessment for the 2nd nine weeks grading period so make it a good score.

5   BONUS ACTIVITY: If you want to earn up to 10 BONUS points in the ACTIVITY section you may do the MODEL OF THE SUN Activity. It is due no later than 1/14 no matter what day you have class. Here are the directions.

MODEL OF THE SUN
Create a 3-D model of the sun showing its component parts and their temperatures. Include information to explain each component part. Include an explanation of the transfer of energy between the different components.  Top score will be 10 pts. Neatness counts as does handwriting. I will not accept 2D or messy projects. You are not guaranteed 10 points unless you meet the criteria. Late, messy, or incomplete projects will not be accepted. You do NOT need to have a foam ball to make a 3D model. Be creative.
