TOSHIBA ENTRANTS

I know it's been a long time since you entered TOSHIBA Exploravision, but they sent CERTIFICATES and GIFTS  for everyone who entered. I just got them today.

It's too late to call everyone, but if you see this call your team. I will try to announce your names at the award ceremony. I will pass out your certificates and  gifts either after the ceremony or at lunch.

I apologize to your parents for not letting them know ahead of time, but I didn't know either and I just spent about an hour adding your names to the certificates. They look good.

See you at symposium.

LAST BONUS

Bonus Activity: VIDEO

Here is an opportunity for you to earn up to 6 BONUS points before the end of this nine week grading period.

You and up to two more students will develop a video that can be used by the science teachers for student instruction in the future. The content should be appropriate for posting on blogs or the school website. (No more than 3 working on this project)

Possible Topics that can be addressed include
  • ·       Advice to future students about how to be successful in science or
  • ·       FCAT review topics for grades 6 and 7. These can be found in your data analysis sheets that you used to prepare for FCAT.
  • ·       Another topic that you get approved by the teacher – in advance.

Be creative
  • ·       Make a music video and write new words to a song.
  • ·       Make an instructional video that incorporates music and science content.
  • ·       Make an informative yet fun video.

What if you need an “extra” for the video?
  • ·       If you need a person or two for a walk on role or just for a few seconds of the video you may hire some extras. Their pay will be one bonus point.
  • ·       If you are an extra on a different video and you submit a video then you also can earn an extra bonus point in addition to the points you earn on your video.

What is required from each member of the group?
  • ·       Each working member of the group MUST submit a summary of what you did for the project. You can prepare a WORD Document and submit this through FOCUS.
  • ·       Include the link in the document with your summary.
  • ·       Be sure to use a header on the document that lists all members of the group.

How to submit
  • ·       You may upload your video to a private YouTube channel and share the link.
  • ·       You may upload your video to your public YouTube channel and share the link.
  • ·       You can upload the video to another service and share the link.
  • ·       You may submit a file on a clean, brand new flash drive; however, you will not get the flash drive back.

NO LATE SUBMISSIONS will be accepted for full credit. Penalties will apply for late submissions.

All projects are due no later than 3:00 pm on June 2.

Posting Grades for Progress Reports

As you are probably aware,mid-term progress reports for the 4th nine weeks will be issued next week. As a result, teachers must post grades and can't leave any blanks. Due to this need to "fill in the blanks" I have chosen to use a 0 for a place holder instead of an * if you were absent. You know I can change those entries as soon as you submit anything due to absences. If you have earned a grade of zero on specific assignments, then you will have an opportunity to do an assignment of my choice to replace that zero. So, if you see some placeholders because you were absent when something was assigned or collected it is up to you to talk to me during class and submit the assignment for credit. The grades for progress reports must be in the portal by 2:30 pm on Wednesday, 5/4. If we don't resolve your grade before that time remember, your current grade will be reflected in the portal as soon as I can enter it. I am testing Geometry on Wednesday and Thursday so I will not be able to take any late work during testing time, only during your class period. If you need to complete an upload to FOCUS for your snapshots then do it and I will check them as soon as I can.
