Where in the world is Mrs. Smith?

I am not on a safari to the Khalahari, I didn't fall and break my arm, and I certainly am not out having too much fun while you are all in school. I have been ill. Although I was in school on Monday, it seems that I came back too soon. As some of you heard, my voice is like a frog. So, in order to really get over this I will be out again for at least 3 more days. I miss seeing all of you in class and hope to be back with you by Friday or Monday.

Please complete the tasks that I leave for you. I did receive glowing reports about a couple of classes from one of the subs and I look forward to hearing that each class was cooperative and really worked hard.

If you have not turned in your postcard from space I will need to get that from you (make sure you evaluate it and have a peer evaluate it) - hold it until I see you again.

College trip A day students will have 2 assignments to complete. B day students will have one. I will post the second assignment later this week so A day students can finish it before you come back to class next Tuesday.

Some of you reported your A3K scores when in the lab, some did not so we will catch up on that when I am back.

Take care, I hope to see you all soon.

College Trip Students

If you are attending the college field trip you have 2 assignments.

First you will need to complete the Fusion Lesson for "The Sun".

The second lesson will only be for A day students to complete before class on Tuesday. That will be posted on Friday.

This might just make your brain hurt, but it goes so well with the planetary information.

FCAT EXPLORER: Lessons and graphing due date.

GRAPHING Task: B day graphs are due as you walk in on Friday. A day due on Monday.
If you have COLOR pencils and/or markers bring them to class as we draw our Postcards from Space for the final part of the Compare/Contrast terrestrial to gas giant planets.

Everyone should complete all of the lessons in FCAT EXPLORER. These should help you review 6th, 7th, and 8th grade concepts that will be on CGA 2. This test will be the last week of January.

Start working through each section of the ship. The whole ship will be finished during the 3rd nine week grading period. You will have class time to work on FCAT EXPLORER next week along with 2 A3K lessons. We will meet in the 2nd floor computer lab on Wednesday and Thursday. Be prepared to do both A3K lessons that day and then work on FCAT.

An opportunity for students to compete for a four-year Florida College Plan scholarship provided by the Florida Prepaid College Foundation

I received this letter recently and wanted to share this opportunity with all of my students.  Perhaps you want to give it a whirl.

Dear Educators:
As you begin a new semester, we would like to share an important opportunity with you. This week, Governor Rick Scott and First Lady Ann Scott announced the 2015 Black History Month contests, honoring both students and educators.
Excellence in Education Award:
Students, parents, teachers and principals are invited to nominate full-time, African-American educators in elementary, middle and high schools for the Black History Month Excellence in Education Award. All entry forms and guidelines for the contests can be found at www.FloridaBlackHistory.com.
Student Art and Essay Contests:
Art and essay contests are open to students in Kindergarten to 12th grade. The theme for this year’s essay and art contests is “A Celebration of African-American Innovation and Innovators.” Students are asked to share how African-American innovators have shaped Florida.
The art contest is open to all Florida students in grades K-3, and two winners will be selected.
The essay contest is open to all Florida students in grades 4 through 12. Three winners will be selected: one elementary student (grades 4-5), one middle-school student (grades 6-8), and one high school student (grades 9-12). Winners will receive a four-year Florida College Plan scholarship provided by the Florida Prepaid College Foundation.
Information about the contests and Florida’s Black History Month is available on Florida’s Black History Month website at www.FloridaBlackHistory.com.

Monday and Tuesday - Finish the chart before next class.

If you missed class on either Monday or Tuesday, you need to prepare a chart that lists certain properties of terrestrial and gas giant planets. Use Unit 3 lessons 4 and 5 for most of the information.
If you were present, you know you must have this chart complete as you walk into class. The next step is a graphing activity. You should have your own graph paper for this.
